Abstract
Abstract
Background: Premenstrual Disorders (PMD) including abdominal pain, altered bowel movements, and psychological disturbances, adversely affects quality of life in young women. Conventional treatments often provide only temporary relief and may cause side effects. Ayurveda prescribes specific dietary measures such as Havishya diet during Rajaswala Paricharya for menstrual care.
Case Presentation: A 19-year-old female presented with recurrent lower abdominal pain, constipation before menses, increased gastrointestinal movements during menstruation, and mood disturbances for one year. Clinical examination revealed no organic abnormalities.
Intervention: The patient was advised Havishya diet (a preparation of rice, milk, and ghee- Rice porridge) twice daily during the first three days of menstruation for three consecutive cycles, along with code of conduct to be followed during Rajaswala Paricharya.
Outcomes: Progressive improvement was observed. pain reduced from 6 to 3, psychological stress score from 8 to 4, and G I symptoms improved from 7 to 3 (Likert scale). The patient reported better concentration, reduced irritability, and overall improvement in quality of life.
Conclusion: Havishya dietary Rajaswala Paricharya advised during menstruation showed beneficial effects in alleviating lower abdominal pain, gastrointestinal disturbances like loose motion to constipation, and psychological stress during menstruation. This case highlights the potential role of Ayurvedic dietary interventions as safe, simple, and culturally relevant management strategies related to menstrual symptoms.

Key words: Havishya, Rajaswala Paricharya, Premenstrual Disorder.
