Background: Urolithiasis affects adults aged 30–60, especially men. Conventional treatments like Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy, Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy often result in pain, urinary tract infections and kidney damage. Due to these concerns, along with high costs, many patients turn to alternative systems like Unani medicine, known for its holistic and minimally invasive approach.
Objective: The study aims to evaluate the efficacy of Majoon Hajrul Yahood in urolithiasis.
Methodology: This interventional study involved 45 diagnosed patients of urolithiasis, aged 18 to 60 years, comprising 30 in the study group and 15 in the control group, of either gender. The study group received the Unani formulation Majoon Hajrul Yahood at a dose of 7 grams orally once daily for 42 days. Subjective parameters were assessed biweekly on days 14, 28, and 42, while objective parameters were recorded before and after treatment. The study protocol was approved by both the Institute’s Scientific Review Committee and Institutional Ethical Committee.
Results: In the study group, 13 of 30 patients (43.34%) expelled urinary stones, showing statistically significant results (p < 0.014). In comparison, only 4 of 15 patients (26.67%) in the control group showed non-significant expulsion (p = 0.217). Ultrasonography confirmed either complete absence or reduction in stone size. Additionally, notable symptom relief was observed without any reported adverse effects.
Conclusion: The study demonstrates that Majoon Hajrul Yahood is a safe and effective Unani treatment for urolithiasis, significantly enhancing symptom relief and stone expulsion, without adverse effects, supporting further research with larger sample sizes.
