Abstract
The Ayurvedic classics have described Hridroga in certain details in various texts. The description of Hridroga in Ayurveda seems to be brief but upon critical examination, it appears to be similar to various ailments described in conventional Cardiology. Basically five types of Hridroga are described in Ayurveda viz., Vataja, Pittaja, Kaphaja, Tridoshaja and Krimija. The different types of Hridrogas can be correlated with various types of Cardiac disorders specially different forms of Anginas. Certain other forms of cardiopathies which have not been included in the chapter of Hridroga in Ayurveda seem to have been described elsewhere in view of their clinical presentation.
The present study was conducted on 30 clinically diagnosed patients of stable Angina. Patients having I.H.D. with specific conditions were excluded. The study was conducted with an objective of evaluating the role of Lasunadi guggulu in the management of stable Angina on various scientific parameters. During the present trial it was observed that there was significant improvement in clinical manifestations of Stable Angina after the therapy with Lasunadi guggulu. The level of S. Cholesterol, L.D.L., V.L.D.L. and Serum Triglycerides decreased and the level of H.D.L. increased considerably after the therapy. Thus Lasunadi guggulu is proposed to possess good Antianginal and Cardio protective effect and is proposed worthy for use is such conditions if the results are verified by further studies.
