P4 Medicines- Recapitulation in the Siddha System of Medicine

Sushil Kumar P N, Balasubramanian P L, Geetha A.

Abstract
Siddha is the natural, traditional way of life that advocates the well-being, rejuvenation, prevention, and treatment of disease through Kayakarpa muraigal (rejuvenative therapy), like Kayakarpa marunthugal (rejuvenative drugs), Astanga yogam (eight yogic methods), Aasanam (yogic postures), and medicines. The Siddha system of medicine has a unique diagnostic method through Naadi (pulse), Envagai thervu (eightfold examination), and treatment through 32 internal medicines like Saaru(Fresh juice), Kudineer(Decoction), etc. and 32 external medicines like Kattu (bandage), Pattru (local application), etc. P4 medicine, a new healthcare paradigm, uses a large network of health and illness data and the individual to offer a comprehensive medical approach. P4 is an approach to make medicine more predictive, preventive, personalized, and participatory. It has two major objectives: to quantify wellness and predict or prevent diseases. In the Siddha system of medicine, treatment is patient-centric; it is personalized according to the Thega Ilakkanam (body constitution). In the preventive aspect, it has kayakarpam, yogam, aasanam, and dharanai (concentration on one thought). In the predictive aspect, it has Naadi via verse, Sathaganaadi, etc., and Envagai thervu via Theraiyar yamaga venba, etc. In the participatory aspect, it has Pathiyam (dietary regimen) and Anubanam (vehicle of medicine) according to the thegam(body). This literature-based research which linking the Siddha and P4 medicine will give a brief insight into P4 medicine with the traditional approach to patients.

Key words: Siddha, P4 medicines, Envagai thervu, Kayakarpam, Anubanam, Thega Ilakkanam.
