Abstract
According to World Health Organization (~WHO) Data Polycystic ovary syndrome (~PCOS) a significant public health problem and is one of the commonest hormonal disturbances affecting women of reproductive age. The condition affects an estimated 8–13% of women of reproductive age, and up to 70% of cases are undiagnosed. It is characterised by hyperandrogenism, anovulation and polycystic ovaries seen on Ultrasound Sonography (~USG) which clinically manifests in the complex form of amenorrhea or oligomenorrhea, hirsutism, acne, infertility etc. and also can lead to mental health challenges and social stigma. incidence of this disease increasing exponentially due to faulty dietary habits, lack of exercise, sedentary lifestyle, only focusing on career ignoring health etc. This case report explores the efficacy of Virechana (~therapeutic purgation) therapy in addressing a spectrum of symptoms. A 23-year-old female presented with a history of irregular and heavy menstruation persisting for two years, accompanied by blackish discoloration of the armpits, excessive facial hair growth, acne, and hair fall. The patient underwent Virechana therapy, a traditional Ayurvedic detoxification procedure. Following Virechana therapy, the patient experienced significant improvement in all reported symptoms. Virechana therapy demonstrated positive outcomes in addressing menstrual irregularities, hyperpigmentation, and dermatological symptoms in this case.
