Abstract
Introduction: The present case report of Acute Ischemic Stroke, is correlating with the Dosha Maana Vikalpa, one of the Basic concept, explained in Charaka Samhita Sutrasthana 17th Adhyaya. The 62 combinations (Vikalpa) of the three basic components of the body namely Vata, Pitta and Kapha in different proportion (Maana), including their increase and decrease have been explained in this context. The symptoms like slurred speech, gradual loss of speech, unconsciousness, finally death were the consequences of this case, which suggest the diagnosis of this case. Objectives: To interpret the clinical importance of Dosha Maana Vikalpa with the help of the case of Acute Ischemic Stroke. Methodology: A case of Acute Ischemic Stroke is studied which correlates symptomatically with 10th combination of Thridoshas in the table 1. The symptoms observed in the case are interpreted under the purview of the concept Dosha Maana Vikalpa. Observation: In the present case of Acute Ischemic Stroke, the symptoms like Cheshta hani (loss of motor functions), Vaksanga(slurred speech), Moorcha(unconsciousness) suggest the increase of Kapha, Vatapitta reduced condition of DMV. Reduced functioning of Vata pitta; immediate obstruction to the Samjnavaha (sensory perceptions), Vatavaha Srotas (motor activities) by the aggravated Kapha; causing Acute and severe pathogenesis mentioned as ‘Apidhat Bhrisham’ is also observed in this case. Conclusion: The present case study supports the concept of DMV explained in the 17th chapter of Charaka Samhita, Sootrasthana, named Kiyanta Shiraseeya Adhyaya, to simplify the understanding of the diseases with respect to the combination of the Doshas in different proportions.
