Abstract
ABSTRACT
Introduction: Hepatitis B is a persistent viral infection that affects more than 350 million people worldwide and frequently results in cirrhosis, hepatocellular cancer and hepatic insufficiency. It is still difficult to completely eradicate viruses despite the availability of antivirals. Ayurveda by virtue of its Agnideepan and Rasayana chikitsa offers a sustainable approach to manage & restores Hepatic disorders along with liver function.
Patient Information: A 43-year-old male patient had chief complaint of frequent loose stools, flatulence, sporadic abdominal pain and dark-coloured urine since one month, then for the purpose of management; patient visited the Kayachikitsa OPD of Sir Sundar Lal Hospital (SSH), BHU. He had previously been diagnosed with Hepatitis B and was taking Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (300 mg Once Daily), for about six to eight weeks before the patient's presentation, but the medication did not provide enough relief. He received comprehensive ayurvedic treatment at SSH-BHU, including strict Pathya–Apathya nutrition and lifestyle guidelines, Nidana Parivarjana along with Amapachana and Rasayana therapy for immunological strengthening and hepatic regeneration.
Results: After eight months of follow-up, the patient reported considerable improvements in energy, appetite and digestion in addition to complete remission of abdominal pain. Objective parameters showed a marked reduction in the HBV load and normalisation of liver function markers, without any adverse effects.
Discussion: The result was suggestive that Ayurvedic Managements improves hepatocellular resilience and potentiate host immunity by enhancing Ojas and facilitating Ama metabolism. The Rasayana component likely supported immunological homeostasis in accordance with Vyadhi-Kshamatva. Immunomodulatory and hepatoprotective effects, such as modulation of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, NF-κB), enhancement of anti-inflammatory mediators (IL-10), improved T-cell regulation, and reduction of oxidative stress, may be responsible for the observed improvement.
Conclusion: The notable clinical and virological improvements in this Hepatitis B case brought about by ayurvedic treatment suggest that Ama Pachana and Rasayana Chikitsa may be supportive and immunomodulatory therapies in viral hepatopathies.
