A Clinical Study to Evaluate the Effect of Paachana Karma with Musta Churna (Cyperus rotundus) in Dyslipidaemia and Its conceptual Correlation with Autophagy

Abstract
Paachana is one of the 10 types of Dashavidha Langhana. Paachana Karma induces the autophagy process which means removal of the unwanted debris that resulted due to the improper metabolism inside the body.
This study aimed to investigate the potential of the Paachana modality to induce autophagy in individuals with dyslipidaemia.
This study was conducted as an open-label, single-arm interventional trial. Thirty participants, aged between 20-45 years and diagnosed with dyslipidaemia, were enrolled. The intervention involved administering 03 grams of Musta powder twice daily before breakfast/meal (on an empty stomach) for a duration of 60 days. The study assessed participants based on achieving total cholesterol levels below 200mg/dl, along with evaluating the Samyaka lakshanas of Langhana.
In all the recruited patients of Dyslipidaemia in this study, the Paachana therapy through Musta Churna shows significant decrease in level of Total Cholesterol, LDL, Triglyceride, Insulin and increase in the level of HDL and Glucagon at p <0.001 which is highly significant along with statistically significant result in Samyaka Langhana Lakshana. Conclusion: These findings suggest that the Paaachana modality holds promise as a potential intervention for dyslipidaemia management through the induction of autophagy.
