Abstract
The aging population in India is expanding rapidly, posing significant challenges to the nation's healthcare system. Traditional models of care often fail to address the unique, holistic needs of elderly individuals. The P5 approach—predictive, preventive, personalized, participatory, and psycho-cognitive—offers a transformative framework that aligns with contemporary healthcare advancements. When integrated with Ayurveda, an ancient holistic medical system rooted in India, the P5 approach can provide a robust solution for geriatric health care. This study explores the potential for synergistic implementation of the P5 model within Ayurvedic principles to enhance geriatric healthcare services in India. The analysis begins by identifying key areas where Ayurveda and the P5 approach converge, such as their shared emphasis on personalized care and prevention. Ayurveda’s focus on maintaining balance within the body, mind, and environment corresponds to the P5 principles of predictive and preventive medicine, particularly in chronic disease management and healthy aging. Furthermore, the participatory nature of Ayurveda, which encourages active patient involvement in health practices, complements the participatory aspect of the P5 approach. This analysis underscores the potential of implementing the P5 approach within the Ayurvedic framework to create a more sustainable and effective geriatric care model in India. By leveraging the strengths of both modern and traditional medical systems, the study advocates for a multidisciplinary, integrated approach that can address the complex health needs of India’s aging population.
