Clinical study to Evaluate the Efficacy of ‘Haritakyadi Yoga’ in children suffering from Mutrakricchra (UTI)

Urinarytractinfectionisoneofthemostcommonandpotentiallyseriousbacterialinfection found globally in childhood age. The diseaseMutrakricchrasymptomatology resemble more closely to symptomsofUTI.Thisstudyisaninterventional,randomizedparallel-groupclinicaltrial.Aim:Theaimofthestudyistoevaluatetheclinicalefficacyof‘Haritakyadiyoga’inthechildrensufferingfromMutrakricchrawithspecialreferencetoUTI(Cystitis)Materialsandmethods:ThetrialdrugHaritakyadiyogaisoneofthepolyherbalformulationwhichisprescribedforthetreatmentofMutrakricchraasmentionedintheayurvedictextBhaisajyaratnavalimutrakricchrachikitsa.HaritakyadiyogacomprisesHaritaki(Terminalia chebula),Gokshura(Tribulusterrestris),Pashanbheda(Bergenialingulata),Dhanvayasa(Fagoniacretica)and Aragvadha(Cassiafistula).Fortheclinicalstudy,40childrenoftheagegroup of6monthsto10year wereselectedanddividedinto2groups.GroupAreceivedsyrupHaritakyadiyoga(Trialdrug)withdose15mg/kg/dose,8hourly,orally,for14daysandGroupBreceivedTab.Nitrofurantoin(controldrug)withdose5mg/kg/day,8hourly,orally,for14days.Afterregistrationofeachcase,1stfollowupweremadeonthe3rdday,2ndfollowupon the7thday and3rdfollowuponthe14thday.Allessentialinvestigationsweredone atthetimeofregistrationandonthe14thday(onthe3rdfollowup).AssessmentinimprovementordeteriorationinMutrakricchrasymptoms were done by the scoring system and changes inlaboratory parameters. WilcoxonsignedranktestandPearsonchi-squaretestwereusedtoassesstheresultwithinthegroupandbetweenthegrouprespectively.Result:Significantimprovements wereseenin subjectiveandobjectiveparameters (AtReg.VsFU-3)bywithin-groupWilcoxonsigned-ranktest.
Itprovesthat there isequalefficacy With statistically highly significant changes (P< 0.01)oftrialdrugsandcontroldrugsinreducingUTIsymptoms,abnormalurinecharacters (by urinalysis & culture) and hematological parameters. Conclusion:
Effectof‘Haritakyadiyoga’seem to beaneffective and safe formulationforreducing symptomsof Mutrakricchra. Key words: Key Words: Mutrakricchra; Haritakyadi Yoga; Nitrofurantoin; Urinary Tract Infection (UTI).
