Efficacy of Ayurveda Treatment Protocol in Dushta Vrana (Venous Leg Ulcer) - A Case Report

Abstract
Venous leg ulcers (VLUs) are a common, chronic and recurrent condition associated with considerable morbidity and healthcare burden. In Ayurveda, such non-healing ulcers can be correlated with Sirajanya Dushta Vrana, which results from Doshic vitiation and improper wound care. This case report presents a 31-year-old male patient with a non-healing ulcer over the medial malleolus of the right lower limb associated with chronic venous insufficiency. The patient underwent an integrative Ayurveda treatment protocol including Bahya shodhana (external therapies), Panchakarma procedures such as Basti (medicated enema), Jalauka vacharana (leech therapy) and Shamana Aushadhi (oral medications) over a 45-day period. Complete healing of the ulcer was achieved without adverse effects. The case highlights the potential of Ayurveda based protocols in managing chronic ulcers resistant to conventional treatments.
