Analytical study of Neutrophil in Active Amavata with Special Reference to Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Study of 30 Cases

Abstract
One of the most prevalent illnesses, amavata is brought on by the deficiency of vata dosh, the
production of ama (a biotoxin), and the impairment of agani (digestive fire). The primary
cause of Amavata is the vitiation of Vata concurrent with the production of Ama. "Amavata"
is the outcome of the Ama combining with Vata Dosha and occupying Shleshmasthana
(Asthisandhi). Due to comparable clinical symptoms, amavata and rheumatoid arthritis can
be associated. An autoimmune condition called rheumatoid arthritis causes a systemic,
persistent, symmetrical polyarthritis. In modern research, management involves the use of
immunosuppressive medicines, DMARDs (disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs),
glucosecorticoids, and NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), all of which have
several negative effects when used long-term. It is treated naturally and without negative
effects by Ayurveda.
This study aims to explore neutrophil dynamics in 30 patients diagnosed with active
Amavata, highlighting parallels with RA. We observed elevated neutrophil levels in the
majority of patients, suggesting a significant correlation with disease activity. Our findings
emphasize the potential of neutrophils as biomarkers for inflammation and offer insights into
the pathophysiological similarities between Amavata and RA.
