Abstract
Background: Cholesterol in human body has structural as well metabolic implications. In moderation, it exerts favorable effects upon the human body but, beyond the normal limits may result in undesired pathological conditions such as atherosclerosis. The polyphenols, Curcumin and Resveratrol have been reported to have a positive impact on cholesterol regulation evident from previous research studies. However, there has been no evidence on the conjugate effects of both Resveratrol and Curcumin in the expression levels of CYP7A1 and its enzymatic activity.
Objectives: The aim of the current study was to evaluate the potential synergistic effects of Curcumin and Resveratrol in cholesterol regulation.
Methodology: The present experimental study was carried out to assess the synergistic effects of Curcumin and Resveratrol in cholesterol regulation in Swiss mice on 8 weeks treatment. Co-administration of Curcumin-Resveratrol in study group and Atorvastatin in standard control group was done for same duration.
Results: Results demonstrated that the Co-administration of Curcumin-Resveratrol was effective in regulation of cholesterol in comparison with individual Curcumin or Resveratrol treatment as well as equivalent to standard control Atorvastatin.
Conclusion: The potential synergistic effects of Curcumin and Resveratrol in cholesterol regulation are evident from the present study than their individual influences.

Key words: Atherosclerosis, Cholesterol regulation, Curcumin, Polyphenols Resveratrol
