Ayurvedic management of hyperuricemia: A case report

Pravin Masram, Vedika Ade.

Abstract
Hyperuricemia is a common illness that affects patients of all ages and sex. Uric acid is the final oxidation product of purine metabolism. The most common manifestation of hyperuricemia in humans is gout, which can be very painful and difficult to treat. Gout may be correlated to Vatarakta (~gout) in Ayurveda. A 66 years old, male patient presented with complaints of knee joint pain (Bilateral), severe pain in the right toe, redness, swelling, and tenderness at the right toe for three years. Kaishora Guggulu, Samshamani Vati, Kokilakshadi Kwatha, and Sarivadyasava were given from 15.07.2021 to 16.10.2021. There were significant changes in tenderness, pain, oedema, and erythema parameters. The uric acid level was also reduced from 8.9 mg/dl to 3.4 mg/dl. This case study gives focuses on the prognosis and treatment approach of ‘Gouty Arthritis’ from Ayurveda’s point of view.

Key words: Ayurveda, Hyperuricemia, Vatarakta, Gout
